The Senate has commenced legislative action on a Bill for an Act to establish a Federal College of Agriculture in Idumuje-Ugboko, Delta State, as the proposed law successfully passed its first reading on Thursday, March 27.

The Bill, sponsored by Senator Ned Munir Nwoko, representing Delta North senatorial district, aims to bolster Nigeria’s agricultural sector by providing a hub for research, training, and innovation in modern farming techniques.

Speaking on the merits of the Bill, Senator Nwoko described the initiative as a critical step towards ensuring food security, youth employment, and economic growth. 

According to him, the institution would play a pivotal role in equipping young Nigerians with the skills needed to drive the country’s agricultural revolution.

“This College is not just about education; it is about transforming our agricultural sector, empowering young people, and ensuring that Nigeria becomes self-sufficient in food production”, he stated.
