Asagba Prof Azinge Celebrates Asaba Women on Int’l Women’s Day

Today, March 8, 2025, is this year’s International Women’s Day, set aside to  commemorate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. 

In a goodwill message to Asaba women on the auspicious occasion, which also serves as a call to action for accelerating women’s equality, the Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty, Asagba Prof Epiphany Azinge, SAN, OON, congratulated them on the heights they had attained in their various fields of endeavor.

Asagba Prof Azinge described the theme of this year’s celebration:  “For All Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment”, as apt, noting that the event had over the years succeeded in advancing women’s rights, promoting equal rights, opportunities, and access to resources for women and girls, empowering women and girls, supporting education, economic empowerment, and leadership development for women and girls,.

He added that the consciousness of the day had also helped in addressing gender-based violence and working to eliminate violence against women and girls, including domestic violence, sexual harassment, and human trafficking, promoting and encouraging women’s participation in politics, decision-making, and leadership positions.

The highly respected traditional ruler and Papal Knight of Saint Gregory the Great, applauded Asaba women for their resilience, hard work, responsible upbringing, which had seen some of them married to Very Important Personalities in the country and doing well in politics, education, business and other endeavors. 

The Asagba expressed the hope that women’s achievements would continue to be celebrated, to serve as a call to action for a more equitable and just society.
