The Director representing Delta North on the Board of the Direct Labour Agency (DLA), Engr. Lawrence Ejiofor, has described the 3-day retreat for staff of the Agency as a step towards building their capacity to be able to cope with the work demands of the repositioned Agency.

Engr Ejiofor, who was speaking with Journalists at the venue of the retreat, said a lot of transformation had taken place in the Agency, with the support and interest of the State Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, since the inception of the new Board.

He said prior to the inception of the Oborevwori administration, DLA was in a sorry state, with broken down asphalt plants, earth-moving equipment and heavy-duty trucks, when the current Board moved quickly to make operational.

The Director, a former Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, added that the budget of the Agency increased from N600 million in 2023 to N2 billion in 2024 and had further been increased to N3.5 billion in 2025, describing the development as a call to greater service.

He explained that the only way the Agency could reciprocate the Governor’s kind gesture was to resolve not to fail, stressing that it would no longer be business as usual for the staff of the establishment, as some of the challenges that hindered productivity in the past were already being addressed.
