The Delta State Government has been commended for placing a ban on indiscriminate mixing of concrete on tarred road surfaces and pavements in all parts of the state.
The Director General, Warri, Uvwie and Environs Special Area Development Agency, (WUEDA), Hon Prince Godwin Ejinyere, who gave the commendation, said the ban which was announced on Thursday by the Delta State Commissioner for Rural Roads and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, took immediate effect.
Hon. Ejinyere noted that the ban was in tandem with WUEDA’s mission for the Oil City, explaining that the ban was due to indiscriminate mixing of concrete in public places which defaced and destroyed tarred roads and concrete pavements.
He further noted that while government was committed to providing road infrastructure across the state, it would not fold its arms and watch unpatriotic individuals destroy the roads already constructed.
The DG said WUEDA had always expressed concern about the unwholesome practice and warned that government would sanction anyone caught mixing concrete on tarred roads and sidewalks, while the construction site would be sealed.
Prince Ejinyere said the Agency’s Task Force on Environment had been put on red alert to monitor the length and breathe of the metropolis, with a view to apprehending anyone who would violate the ban
He urged residents of Warri, Uvwie and their environs to mix their concrete within their premises and not on tarred road surfaces and pavements, so as to avoid sanctions according to the law.
