The Director General of the Warri, Uvwie and Environs Special Area Development Agency, (WUEDA), Hon. Prince Godwin Ejinyere, has reiterated the determination of the Delta State Government to fully restore the lost glory of the Oil City in the nearest future.
Hon. Ejinyere stated this on New Year Day in an interview with newsmen at his Orerokpe Country Home.
He said when he took charge of the Agency as the DG about a year ago, he was prepared to work with his team in line with the MORE Agenda of the State Governor, Rt. Hon.Sheriff Francis Oborevwori; “and as a Warri Boy, he was abreast of the developmental needs of the Oil Metropolis and how to restore its lost glory,
The WUEDA DG said all hands were on deck to complete ongoing projects, and give priority attention to the needs of the residents of WUEDA’s mandate areas, adding that the road and flood control projects started by WUEDA under his watch, had all been completed in record time, and in line with international best practices.
He said although much still remained to be done, a significant progress had been made, and the Agency was fully committed to walking the Governor’s resolve to restore the lost glory of the Oil City, promising that more projects would be completed before the end of the year..
Prince Ejinyere noted that the Agency had used swamp buggies to open up blocked waterways in the Metropolis, while many communities in the City which were hitherto disconnected by swamps had been connected with short bridges or culverts, courtesy of WUEDA.
In his words, “We are not in rivalry with other agencies but we are doing our beat to complement government’s efforts to bring the Oil City back to its glorious old days; we want to deliver on our corporate mandate, in line with the MORE Agenda of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori”.
The DG said he would soon meet with the Chairman of Uvwie Local Government and his Warri South Local Government counterpart to map out modalities to stop the ugly cycle of cleaning and re-dumping of waste in drains or at unauthorized public places, stressing that residents must know that there was no dumpsite in any part of the Oil City
He warned residents who indiscriminately dumped refuse to block drainage channels, and also those who connected their sewage to open street gutters causing public health hazards to desist forthwith or face severe sanctions.
According to the DG, “We are committed to cleaning up and also protecting the City’s landscape from being degraded, in spite of stiff resistance from some quarters. We shall embark on the beautification of some strategic city locations through the planting of flowers before the end of this year”.
The WUEDA DG thanked Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his unwavering support for the Agency, which had led to the feats already achieved and reassured residents of the Metropolis that more roads, drainage channels, bridges or culverts would be constructed and completed in the new year
He, however, urged residents of the City to help sustain the success recorded by government by stopping the indiscriminate dumping of wastes in gutters/unauthorized places, urging them to register with PSPs towards achieving an effective waste management in the City.
