The Ezechi Hope Foundation, on Sunday extended succour to a late Youth President of Okpai in Ndokwa East LGA, Comrade Eric Egwuonwu.
The deceased is survived by three wives and nine children.
Presenting symbolic cheques of N1 million to each of the three widows, the Chairman of the Foundation and member representing the Ndokwa/Ukwuani Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon Nnamdi Ezechi, expressed sadness over the passing of the young Youth Leader.
Hon Ezechi noted that Eric’s death was particularly painful considering the young wives and children he left behind, adding that he passed away at his prime when he still had a lot to offer.
The Federal Lawmaker said the financial assistance to the deceased’s immediate family was the Foundation’s own way of giving hope to his wives and children to cushion the effect of the huge loss, expressing the hope that they should be able to start up sustainable ventures or grow their existing businesses with the money.
Hon Ezechi urged the young widows to put the money to judicious use, promising that the Foundation would also assist in the education of the children
Others who spoke, including the Vice Chairman of the Foundation, Hon Okwuwa Ezechi, the Ndokwa East PDP Woman Leader, Chief Ezinnne and a former Leader of the Ndokwa East local Government Legislative Arm, Hon Prince Onuah, paid tribute to late Eric Egwuonwu, describing him as a resourceful and energetic member of the PDP
They advised the three young widows to work together to be able to keep the family strong and united, stressing the need for them to avoid divisive tendencies and focus on how best to raise their children.
An elder sister of the deceased’s, Mrs Hope Stephen, the widows – Jenifer, 33; Onyinye, 35 and Favour, 27, thanked the Ezechi Hope Foundation for the gesture and promised to put the funds to good use.
