The wife of the Delta State Governor, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, has called on the people of Oshimili South to continue to support the Obi Ezenyili-led Local Government Council to impact more on them.


Deaconess Oborevwori made the call at the commissioning of the ultra modern Oko Event Centre, at Oko Amakom and the flag off of a N50 million empowerment programme for 500 persons in the LGA

The Governor’s wife said the fact that the Local Government was grassroots – oriented was not in doubt and commended Dr. Obi Kelvin Ezenyili for focusing on improving the well-being of Oshimili South people and other residents of the area.

She described the Oko Event Centre as one project that would have a multiplier effect on the socio-economic life of the people and urged the community to guard, protect and judiciously utilize the facility to be able to derive maximum benefits from it.

Deaconess Oborevwori stated that the Obi Ezenyili administration had shown genuine commitment to ensuring the actualization of the MORE agenda of the present administration in Oshimili South through the execution of infrastructural projects and the empowerment of the people..

The First Lady thanked all who contributed to the execution of the Event Centre and other accomplishments of the Council Chairman, stressing that it was obvious that the Oko community would remain eternally grateful to the Local Government for the project.

In his address on the occasion, the Oshimili South Council Chairman, Hon Chief Obi Kelvin Ezenyili, Ph.D, said in line with the MORE agenda of the Oborevwori administration, building the Event Centre was considered necessary in order to provide a befitting place for social events within reach.

Dr. Obi Ezenyili explained that the initiative to execute the project was borne out of his administration’s desire for developmental governance, pointing out that the facility would bring succour to the people of Oko, who hitherto travelled to Asaba for their social events.

The Council boss stated that though the people of Oko were not particularly happy with the situation of things in the area, they had remained supportive of government, which explained why they needed dividends of democracy to create a warm and embracing feeling in their hearts.

On the cash empowerment programme, Dr. Obi Ezenyili said it was designed to give the people of Oshimili South a sense of belonging by creating windows of opportunity through democratic dividend and inclusiveness, adding that the programme would help to address the problem of youth restiveness, and ensure they were properly engaged.

He maintained that as leaders of tomorrow, it was high time the youths were equipped so that the older generation could live in an environment devoid of any threat, fear of attack or disturbance from them, emphasizing that his administration was youth-friendly and would continue to strive to make life more meaningful to them.

The Council Chairman revealed that the beneficiaries of the empowerment programme were carefully selected from Persons With Disabilities, Artisan groups, the Christian Association of Nigeria, Civil Society Organisations, Community Youth Leaders, the traditional institution, security agencies, Igbo, Hausa, Yoruba and Igala communities in Oshimili South, among others.

In their separate remarks, the member representing Oshimili South in the State Assembly, Hon. Bridget Anyafulu; the Special Adviser to the Governor on Peace Building and Conflict Resolution, Chief Edwin Uzor and the Chairman, PDP, Oshimili South, Hon Chike Ifesiokwu; commended Obi Ezenyili for his great accomplishments, which they noted were in line with the vision of the Oborevwori administration.

Earlier, the Odua of Oko Amakom, Chief Victor Obi, expressed appreciation to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for the commencement of construction work on Oko road and for the appointment of sons and daughters of the area to political positions, stressing that the Oko Event Centre would not have been possible without the support of the Governor.
The highlight of the event was the conferment of the title of Ikemba of Oko kingdom on Hon Chief Obi Kelvin Ezenyili by the Onihe of Oko Amakom, in appreciation for his impressive showings as Oshimili South Local Government Chairman
