The State Governor, Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, gave the commendation at the foundation laying/ground breaking of the proposed Mary-Martha Polytechnic, Otor Owhe, in Isoko North local government area, a project of the Diocese of Oleh
The Governor, who was represented by the Chief of Staff, Government House, Hon Prince Johnson Erijo, noted that the Anglican Communion had been steadfast in advancing education in the state, having earlier established a School of Nursing, in addition to the secondary schools being effectively run by the Mission.
He described the project as an ambitious one and lauded the Bishop of the Diocese of Oleh, Right Rev. John Aruakpor, for striving to leave enduring legacies for the Church.
Governor Oborevwori thanked the Archbishop Metropolitan and Primate of All Nigeria, Most Rev. Henry Ndukuba, and the Archbishop Ecclesiastical of Bendel Province, Most Rev. Cyril Odutemu, for their support for the Diocese of Oleh, which had led to the spiritual and structural growth of the Diocese over time.
The Governor noted the request of the Church for the construction of an access road to the proposed Polytechnic and pledged that it would be looked into.
In his remarks, the immediate past Governor of the state, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, said the idea of establishing the Polytechnic was commendable, as it would bridge the gap created by the upgrade of the Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro, to a University and help to meet the technological manpower need of the state and the nation.
Also speaking, the member representing the Isoko Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Rt. Hon Jonathan Ukodhiko, thanked the Otor Owhe community for donating buildings for the take off of the Polytechnic and 41 hectares of land for the permanent site of the institution.
In a message, the Archbishop Metropolitan and Primate of All Nigeria, Most Rev. Henry Ndukuba, said the proposed Polytechnic project was one way to build for God, adding that the institution would contribute to the spiritual, moral and technological education of the youths.
Earlier, the President-General of Otor Owhe, Engr. Wilfred Atunu, stated that the community opted to partner with the Anglican Communion in establishing the Polytechnic by providing take off structures and land for the permanent site because of the great potentials inherent in hosting the institution.
