The Engr Chief Chukwuemeka Chukwurah Green Energy Foundation (ECCCGEF), has said it is committed to working out engineering solutions to climate change.
The President of the Foundation, Engr. Chief C. C. Chukwurah, FNSE, FNIM FNIProcE, disclosed this on Saturday in Asaba after receiving an award for his relentless climate change mitigation initiatives at the 8th edition of the Delta State Civil Society/Citizens Day.
Engr. Chief Chukwurah said the engineering solutions, already in pilot stages of research in some developed nations, would be in the form of Direct Air Capture and Direct Ocean Capture machines to capture carbon dioxide in the atmosphere (air) and the hydrosphere (ocean/seas), which essentially was a scientific attempt to mimic photosynthesis with carbon absolvent contraptions.
He stressed that beyond the green energy option for the mitigation of climate change, it had become imperative to deploy engineering solutions for better results and urged the government and research Institutes to intervene in that regard.
ECCCGEF President pointed out that trees had been planted in some schools in the state, and the 2024 Day of Fight Against Climate Change marked with award of prizes to the winners of her Green Poetry Prize .
According to him, plans were on for a 60-tree orchard to be developed at the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun, to serve as carbon sinks, while public lectures had been organized to sensitize the public on the need to embrace the green energy initiative.
Engr. Chief Chukwurah, who is the Osowa Owelle Ahaba, told the gathering that the Asagba of Asaba, Asagba Prof Epiphany Chigbogu Azinge, SAN, OON KSG, had given consent for his Foundation to work with the Diokpas of the villages in Asaba to plant trees to make the city green and clean.
He thanked the organizers of the award ceremony for honouring him and four members of the ECCCGEF Board of Trustees, describing the award as a call to further action on green energy and climate change mitigation.
