The Delta State Waste Management Board, (DSWMB), on Wednesday, continued its war against filth in the State Capital Territory with a special clean up at some strategic locations within the city.
A team of the Board’s personnel, led by the Asaba Field Office Supervisor, Evelyn Orisewezie, was at the Akpu junction – Camp 74 road, Marble Hill junction on the Asaba – Benin expressway, ICE – St. Brigid’s road, the Oko market axis, among other places, to evacuate waste indiscriminately dumped by unknown persons.
The front of the Asaba Airport defaced by littered disused materials was also cleaned up by the Waste Management Board team.
Speaking on the import of the exercise, the Chairman of the Board, Hon Matthew Mofe Edema, reiterated that waste management in Delta State had taken a new turn.
Hon Edema said no effort would be spared in the renewed effort to get rid of waste dumped at unauthorized spots in the urban towns and cities of the state, pointing out that the daily evacuation of waste from strategic road junctions, shoulders and median kerbs in the State Capital Territory had come to stay and would be soon be extended to some other parts of the state.
The Chairman commended the staff of the Board for their commitment to driving the vision of the Oborevwori administration as it concerned efficient waste management, noting that field operations had improved tremendously in recent times.
Hon Edema renewed his call for attitudinal change by residents of towns and cities of the state, with regards to waste disposal, insisting that people must learn to respect the law and do things right, as indiscriminate dumping was not the way to go about managing domestic waste.
He urged all residents who had yet to key into the PSP model to do so to avoid unpleasant consequences during enforcement drives.
