The newly inaugurated Chairman of the Delta State Waste Management Board, Hon Matthew Mofe Edema, has said the Board’s mandate will be driven with renewed vigour to enable it contribute more significantly to the realization of the MORE agenda of the Oborevwori administration.
Hon Edema, who was speaking in an interview shortly after the inauguration of Chairmen and members of Boards of some government establishments by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, said the poor sanitary habits of some residents of the state would be vigorously tackled in coming days.
He noted that indiscriminate dumping of refuse in urban towns and cities of the state had seemed intractable, but assured that more stringent measures, including strict enforcement of extant laws would be taken to change the narrative
The DSWMB Chairman, while admitting that issues bordering on waste management remained difficult to effectively handle, even in developed nations, maintained that aggressive awareness campaigns would be mounted on the need for residents to appreciate the importance of cleanliness and desist from unhealthy practices
Hon Edema said critical stakeholders, including Local Government Chairmen, would be involved in finding solution to the challenges of waste management, adding that the Board was collaborating with the State Taskforce on Environment in the area of enforcement.
He charged waste managers, otherwise known as Private Sector Participants (PSPs) to contribute their quota to the success of the Board by improving on their operations, assuring that the Board would continue to make the dumpsites easily accessible and spacious for them.
The Board Chairman thanked Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his inauguration and urged the members, management and staff of the establishment to continue in the team spirit which had kept the Board going over time
