The Executive Chairman of the Delta State Waste Management Board, Hon Matthew Mofe Edema, has called for collaborative efforts of the Board and Local Government Councils to tackle environmental challenges, especially as they concern waste management in the state
Hon Edema, a former Chairman of Warri South Local Government, made the call when members and management staff of the Board met with the authorities of Oshimili South Local Government to discuss waste disposal concerns.
The Board Chairman, after congratulating Dr. Kelvin Ezenyili on his re-election as Chairman, highlighted the need for sustainable partnership aimed at enhancing waste management practices in the LGA, pointing out that the collective effort of the Board and the Local Government was required to tackle indiscriminate dumping of refuse and the aparthy of residents to the PSP model.
He said the Board had remained committed to regular evacuation of waste from unauthorized spots in Asaba, Agbor, Warri, Uvwie, Sapele and other urban towns and cities of the state, in line with the MORE agenda of the Oborevwori administration.
Hon Edema commended the Oshimili South Local Government for supporting the Environment Department of the Council to effectively carry out its duties and urged the Council to continue to work in synergy with the Board for the greater good of the environment and residents of the Local Government Area.
Responding, the Oshimili South Council Chairman, Hon Kelvin Ezenyili, PhD, Obi expressed gratitude for the proactive approach of the current Board under the watch of Hon Mode Edema to waste management across the state, noting that the Board had succeeded where jts predecessors failed.
Hon Ezenyili emphasized the need for the existing collaboration to be sustained to ensure that Delta, particularly the state capital, remained clean and environmentally sustainable.
Both leaders discussed various challenges and the potentials for strategic solutions, with Hon. Edema committing to address the issues collaboratively.
The Executive Chairman of DSWMB, Hon Matthew Mofe Edema, was accompanied by the member representing Delta Central, Hon Felix Erhimedafe, member representing Delta North, Hon Cosmas Igbenije, Director, Administration and Human Resources, Mr Okenyen Samuel, Director, Planning, Research and Statistics, Mr Nicholas Duran, Director, Finance and Account, Mr Benson Ogbogo, Barr. Mrs Nkeakan Afoke-Iteheri and the Director, Operations, Mr Michael Esegba.
Also present were the Vice Chairman of Oshimili South Local Government, Hon. Mrs Chinye Uso, the Secretary to the Local Government (SLG), Chief Henry Enebeli Obi, among other Council officials
