The Delta State Waste Management Board has been commended for the regular evacuation of waste on road shoulders and median kerbs within the State Capital Territory .

Some residents who spoke with this medium recently noted that the prompt evacuation of the waste, usually dumped at odd hours of the night or very early in the morning, has given the Capital City a cleaner look.

The respondents, including Chief John Iloh, Pastor Kelvin Umunna, Mrs Veronica Ijeh, Mr Omenka Odo and Miss Fumnanya Peters, said places like Koka Junction, Ibusa road, Ezenei Avenue, Okpaneam road, St. Brigid’s road, Back of NTA, among others, which used to be littered with waste now wear new looks

They confirmed that they have seen pail loaders, trucks and personnel of the Waste Management Board at work evacuating waste from illegal dumpsites, road shoulders and median kerbs on several occasions which suggests dedication on the part of the Board.

While urging the Mofe Edema-led Board not to relent, the respondents called for increased sensitization of residents against  indiscriminate dumping of refuse and appealed to those involved in it to desist and key into the measures designed to ensure a well coordinated refuse disposal system.

They used the opportunity to call on the relevant authorities to de-silt all underground drainage channels, especially the stretch between BYC junction and Ibusa junction, as well as the Standard Life junction axis of DLA road, to check the serious flooding being experienced in those areas.
