Following Saturday’s historic coronation of the 14th Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty, Obi (Prof) Epiphany Chigbogu Azinge, some prominent sons of Asaba have said the event marked the beginning of a new dawn of peace, unity and progress of the ancient town, which now hosts the state capital.
Among them is the Isama of Asaba, Chief (Barr) Chuck Nduka-Eze, who said the selection of the new Asagba, prior to his coronation, went well with over 99 percent support base, even with the very critical and civilized nature of the average Asaba man.
Chief Nduka-Eze.explained that the unprecedented support base was suggestive of some level of commitment with which the Asagba would go about the onerous task ahead of him, bearing in mind that Asaba people would stand by him.
He said the people were fortunate to have a Professor of Law and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, as their King, adding that with an equally Senior Advocate of Nigeria as wife, Asagba (Prof) Azinge would have all the intellectual support base to deliver on his mandate.
The Isama maintained that the people of Asaba had every reason to be happy and wish their new King well
Also speaking, the Ubilikanku of Asaba, Chief (Prof) Leroy Edozien, said the successful coronation marked the end of the 33-year glorious reign of the late 13th Asagba, Obi (Prof) Chike Edozien and the beginning of a new chapter of the reign of the 14th Asagba, Obi (Prof) Epiphany Chigbogu, SAN
Chief Edozien added that the eminence and personality of the new Asagba was not in dispute, and expressed optimism that with the vast experience he had gathered over the years his reign would be peaceful, productive and inclusive.
The Ubilikanku noted that Asagba (Prof) Azinge was fully aware of the huge task ahead of him, and advised that he should focus on achieving peace, progress and development in the land, even as he assured the monarch of the support of the Olinzeles.
For his part, the Osowa Owelle of Asaba, Engr. Chief Chukwuemeka Chukwurah, expressed delight with the seamless transition which culminated to the coronation of the 14th Asagba.
Chief Chukwurah commended the Asagba for extending a hand of fellowship to the very few aggrieved persons in Isieke village, saying that his action was a demonstration of the spirit of oneness.
The climate change mitigation advocate also applauded the new Asagba for his pledge to attract a Federal University to Asaba, build a central palace of the Asagba of Asaba, establish a welfare/development fund, create jobs for the unemployed youths of Asaba and revive inactive traditional institutions in the community.
Another respondent and Vice Chancellor, Dennis Osadebay University, Asaba, Prof Ben Oghojafor, dwelt on the intimidating credentials of Asagba (Prof) Azinge as a Papal Knight, a Professor of Law, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and a Judge of the Commonwealth Arbitral Tribunal, which he said would add value to his reign.
Prof Oghojafor expressed gratitude to the Asagba for his intention to collaborate with government and the private sector to attract more development to Asaba, suggesting that emphasis should be on reviving the moribund Asaba Textile Mill to create jobs for thousands of youths.
He pledged the readiness of Dennis Osadebay University to collaborate with the Asagba to attract developments complementary to the efforts of government.
