The Nigeria Labour Congress, (NLC), Delta State Council, has appreciated the state government for constituting a Negotiation Committee for the implementation of the new minimum wage in the state.
The appreciation is contained in a communique issued at the end of the State Executive Council (SEC) meeting of the apex labour union held on Thursday in Asaba and signed by the State Chairman, Comrade Goodluck Ofobruku and Secretary, Comrade Enekhawore Acrobat.
The SEC in-session agreed that the state and local governments should immediately implement the new minimum wage with effect from 29th July 2024 as contained in the enabling circular.
It called on the private sector in the state to also commence the payment of the new minimum wage to their workers with immediate effect and announced the constitution of a taskforce to ensure full implementation compliance in both public and private sectors in the state.
SEC in-session affirmed that the Nigeria Labour Congress in the state was ready for negotiations, going forward, and urged all workers in the state to be patient, while assuring them that there would be full implementation of the new minimum wage in Delta State after negotiations.
