The Special Adviser to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Peace Building and Conflict Resolution, Chief Edwin Uzor, has joined the Council of Knights of the Diocese of Asaba, Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion.
Chief Uzor, a renowned advocate for peace, was invested as a Knight of Saint Christopher and his wife a Lady of Saint Mary, by the Bishop of the Diocese of Asaba, Right Reverend Kingsley Obuh, on Saturday at the Cathedral Church of Saint Peter, Anglican Communion, Asaba.
In an exhortation at the investiture service, the Bishop of Ika Diocese, Anglican Communion, Right Reverend Ekpenisi, said the Knights had become soldiers of Christ and were expected to stand firmly against violence targeted at the Christian faith and attacks on the Church, mostly by unbelievers.
Bishop Ekpenisi, who traced the origin of knighthood to between the 5th and 15th century after the death of Christ, when Christianity faced serious challenges, emphasized that the Knights were expected to defend, spread and build the Christian faith,
He said they should speak against evil in all ramifications, be it on religious, social, economic and political matters, stressing that the Knights must not close their eyes to corruption and bad leadership currently plaguing the country.
The Bishop congratulated the Knights and Ladies and urged them to be dedicated to their calling and active in the work of God, as anything to the contrary would portray them and the Christiandum in bad light.
In an interview after his investiture, Sir Uzor said it was a great honour to be a soldier of Christ, and promised to devote more time to the service of God and humanity.
Sir Uzor, who is the Onwa of Oko kingdom, said his chieftainy title was not a problem to his Christian life, assuring that he would continue to promote peace and contribute to the growth of evangelism and the development of the Church.
He thanked his Church for finding him and his wife worthy of investiture, as well as friends and well wishes who supported them, including the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Kingsley Emu, the Senior Policy Adviser to the Governor, Rt. Hon Funkekeme Solomon, the Vice Chairman of Oshimili South Local Government, Mrs Chinwe Uso, popularly called Mama West, among others.
