The Chairman of the Delta State Rural Development Agency (RDA), Engr. Smart Meka, has donated 500 exercise books to primary schools in Ward 11, Oshimili South Local Government Area.
Engr Meka, who made the donation through the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) on Friday, said the books would help indigent pupils, whose parents would not be able to afford exercise books, to overcome their educational challenges.
The RDA Chairman said the books were targeted at encouraging the less privileged pupils not to lose hope in the pursuit of their education, pointing out that some great men in the country today had no sandals nor good uniforms to wear to school in their early days.
He noted that the State Governor, Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, designed the MORE agenda of his administration to accommodate everyone, irrespective of social status, explaining that as an aide to the Governor, it behoved him to key into the agenda and modestly impact on the society.
Engr Meka said he was encouraged by the overwhelming support of Ward 11 for the PDP and the Oborevwori administration, stressing that as the leader of the Ward, the donation of the books, which he promised to extend to other parts of Oshimili South LGA, was one way to appreciate the people.
He urged Primary School Heads in the Ward to ensure that the exercise books got to those they were meant for, insisting that they should be transparent with the distribution of the books.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Hon. Samuel Mariere, commended Engr. Smart Meka, whom he described as a friend of the Board, for donating the exercise books for pupils in his Ward to promote the Governor Oborevwori’s MORE agenda.
Hon Mariere, a former member of the Delta State House of Assembly, said the gesture was an encouragement to pupils who might not be able to use exercise books because their parents could not afford them, adding that the donation was a form of assistance to such parents in the Ward.
Also speaking, the Secretary, Local Education Authority (LEA), Oshimili South Local Government Area, Dr. Allanah Oputa Otutu, assured that the books would be fairly distributed to all the primary schools in the Ward.
One of the Headmasters, Mr. Ijezie Jude Amaechi of Okpu-Elenchele Primary School, Asaba, thanked the RDA Chairman for his kind gesture and promised to ensure that every pupil in his school received the exercise books.
