Delta State Commissioner for Primary Education, Dr. Kingsley Ashibogwu, has said government has maintained a clean slate in its relationship with primary school teachers in the state.

Dr. Ashibogwu, who was speaking in an interview with this medium, said salaries and promotion had remained regular, insisting that no teacher was being owed a dime

He pointed out that government had also remained committed to the training and retraining of teachers with a view to ensuring high academic standards in public schools, while infrastructural upgrade had continued to enjoy priority attention.

The former Commissioner for Higher Education explained that primary education was the foundation of other levels of education and the system must be at its best to be able to churn out quality products for the secondary schools and by extension the universities, which was why the state government was investing so much in upgrading facilities and people improving standards in primary schools across the state.

He urged parents and guardians to change their attitude towards public primary schools, which he said were better off in terms of staffing and infrastructure, revealing that sensitization programmes were being organised to help boost confidence in public schools

On age limit for WAEC, NECO and JAMB examinations, the Commissioner urged the examination bodies to reconsider their stance in view of the extra ordinary smartness of some present day children, saying that it was. absurdĀ  to have a child wait for two years after passing out of primary school because he must be 12 before seeking admission to secondary school.
