Ogbueshi Dada Okonji on Friday formally bowed out of office as Chairman, Caretaker Committee of the Oshimili South chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), following the inauguration of the new LGA executive of the party.
In appreciation for his purposeful leadership over the past eight years he was in the saddle, the ex-Chairman was hosted by the party, even under the bad weather that characterized the day.
In his remarks on the occasion, the Chairman, Delta North senatorial district chapter of the PDP, Elder Moses Iduh, thanked God for the life of Ogbueshi Dada Okonji, whom he said would be remembered for stabilizing the party in Oshimili South and made things easy for it at the state level.
Elder Iduh noted that the ex-Chairman had set high standards for the party in the LGA and charged the new executive to strive to do better to further enhance the electoral value of the party
A former State Chairman of PDP and leader of the party in Oshimili South, Chief Edwin Uzor, who also spoke at the event, said Dada Okonji deserved to be celebrated for doing the party proud in Oshimili South and urged him to use his knowledge and experience in party administration to guide the new executive to succeed.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Oshimili South Local Government, Dr. Obi Kelvin Ezenyili, thanked the ex-Party Chairman for his outstanding performance, pointing out that he was a major beneficiary of his stewardship, having been there for him during his first election in 2021 and his re-election this year.
For his part, the new LGA Chairman of the party, Mr Chike Ifesiokwu, noted that Dada Okonji, popularly called Blackman, successfully weathered the storm, daring turbulences and upheavals, to take the party to enviable heights.
Mr. Ifesiokwu, who said the ex-Chairman had made an impressive mark that would be difficult to erase in the annals of history of the PDP in Oshimili South, promised to introduce transformations that would take the party beyond the height attained by the immediate past executive and solicited the support of party faithful in that regard.
He urged Dada Okonji to be supportive of the new executive, pledging to work closely with him to ensure that PDP remained the only political party in Oshimili South Local Government Area.
Responding, Ogbueshi Dada Okonji said he was overwhelmed with the massive support and solidarity he received as Party Chairman, adding that he did not expect to be so honoured for serving the party to the best of his ability.
The ex-Chairman thanked party leaders, elders, women and youths of Oshimili South, as well as non indigene, for helping him to succeed, culminating to the stability of the party in the LGA, and promised to remain committed to advancing the electoral fortunes of the party.
Ogbueshi Okonji commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, the immediate past Governor of the State, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa; the State Chairman of PDP, Barr Kingsley Esiso; the Delta North Chairman of the party, Elder Moses Iduh; among others, for their contributions to the growth and unity of the party in Oshimili South and the state at large.
The occasion featured presentation of souvenirs to the ex-Party Chairman.
