The President and Founder of the Engr Chief Chukwuemeka Chukwurah Green Energy Foundation (ECCCGEF), Engr. (Chief) C. C. Chukwurah, FNSE, FNIM, FNIPROCE, KSM, has been commended for relentlessly championing Climate Change mitigation initiatives.

The President and Chairman-in-Council of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Engr. Margaret Aina Oguntala FNSE, gave the commendation on Thursday in Asaba at a tree planting exercise organised by the Foundation.

Engr. Oguntala, who led other National Executive Committee members of the body to the Permanent Secretary’s Quarters, venue of the exercise, said she was highly impressed with the efforts Chief Engr. C.C Chukwurah FNSE had put into mitigating Climate Change, describing him as a great ambassador for the NSE and a man passionate about the environment and how to preserve it.

She said the NSE NEC was happy to identify with ECCCGEF’s tree planting campaign, as a way of contributing to Climate Change mitigation efforts in the state, pointing out that the exercise was in consonance with the theme of the Society’s 2024 Annual Conference: “Sustainable Engineering Solutions To Food Security and Climate Change”.

Engr. Oguntala remarked that green energy had become imperative globally, emphasizing that Climate Change had come to stay, while urging the people to plant trees, ensure green economy and reduce carbon emission in order to mitigate the effects on the human race.

In an interview with newsmen, the President and Founder of ECCCGEF, Engr (Chief) C. C. Chukwurah, said he decided to take advantage of the NSE NEC meeting, which took place in Asaba, to get the President and Executive Council members of the body to plant trees, in line with the theme of their forthcoming national conference billed for November 2024.

Engr Chukwurah, who is the Osowa Owelle of Asaba, expressed satisfaction with the progress and great impact his Foundation had made in just one year of the Climate Change mitigation campaign, saying that trees had been planted at St. Patrick College, Niger Mixed Secondary School, Isioma Onyeobi College, Model Technical College all in Asaba, as well as Okpara Waterside Mixed Secondary School, in Ethiope East Local Government Area.

Pertinent lectures and discussions were also part of the tree planting events, during which students’ Nurturing and Tracking Ambassadors were raised in the schools to ensure that the trees that were planted thrived and bore fruits.


He added that the Foundation was collaborating with Dennis Osadebay University, Asaba, to jointly organise Annual Public Lectures, whose 2024 edition had taken place in the University with the theme: “Total Quality Environment and Climate Change” and the topic: BUILDING CLIMATE CHANGE RESILIENCE AND GREEN ECONOMY FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT.

According to Engr. Chukwurah, the ECCCGEF was collaborating with Environmental Health Officers of Nigeria, Delta State chapter and was in discussions with its national body to give the Climate Change mitigation campaign a national outlook, promising to sustain the tempo of activities in that regard.

Bemigho Ofoeyeno FNSE; Vice President, Membership Services, Engr. Rose Madaki FNSE; and Vice President, Professional Development, Engr. Ademola Agoro FNSE.

Others were the Vice President, Engineering Innovations, Engr. Joseph Adebayo FNSE; a National Executive Committee member, Engr. Ibrahim Hammadikko FNSE, the immediate past President, Engr. Tasim Sa’ad Gidari – Wudil FNSE, Engr. Bemigho Ofoeyeno of WUEDA and the Permanent Secretary, Delta State Ministry of Environment, Dr. Minnie Oseji.
