As unconfirmed reports of the demand of N1bn ransom by abductors of ex-Delta female Commissioner, Hon Joan Onyemaechi continue to trend on the social media, the State Police Command has explained why it cannot speak authoritatively on the matter.
When contacted by this medium, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Bright Edafe, said he was not aware of any communication between the abductors and the abductee’s family nor any demand for ransom.
SP Edafe explained that the family had yet to tell the police anything in those regards, promising to keep the public updated with any credible information received on the incident
Joan Onyemaechi, who is also a former member of the House of Representatives, was kidnapped by gunmen on Tuesday, 30th July, in Asaba and nothing has been heard about her nine days after.
It was earlier speculated that she had been murdered and her remains dumped at the Onitsha end of the Niger bridge and later that she had been released, which the police debunked.
