Youths of Delta State have been assured that government will continue to create opportunities for them to realize their potentials to be able to navigate the present day socioeconomic realities.
The Chief of Staff to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, Hon Prince Johnson Erijo, gave the assurance when a delegation of the Isoko National Youth Congress visited him at Government House, Asaba.
Hon Erijo noted that all was not well with the economy, with high rates of unemployment and cost of living, increased level of poverty and hunger in the land, which had forced many youths to the streets with the attendant social consequences.
He said in a bid to give youths in the state a sense of belongings, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori appointed over 70 percent of them as Commissioners and members of the State Executive Council, as well as to other positions in government.
The Chief of Staff added that government had paid the year 2022/2023 bursaries to students of Delta State origin in tertiary institutions across the country, while various job and wealth creation programmes were in place for others not in school.
Hon Erijo thanked the Isoko National Youth Congress delegation for the visit and for resolving that Isoko youths would not join the nationwide hunger protest in appreciation for the youth-friendly disposition of the Oborevwori administration.
He promised to remain a good ambassador for the Isoko nation in government, reassuring Isoko youths and indeed other Delta youths that they would continue to be carried along in the scheme of things
The leader of the delegation and President, Isoko National Youth Congress, Comrade Edigbe Festus, had, earlier in his remarks, described the appointment of Hon Erijo as Chief of Staff to the Governor as a great honour to the Isoko nation for which they would remain grateful to Oborevwori and supportive of his administration.
Comrade Edigbe told the Chief of Staff that Isoko youths had resolved not to join the hunger protest because Governor Oborevwori had done a lot to encourage and support youths in the state.
He, however, urged Hon Erijo to always endeavor to draw the attention of Isoko youths to existing empowerment opportunities of government so that they would not be left out of.
