The leadership of the Traders Association of Nigeria, Delta State chapter, has thanked members of the body for not participating in the nationwide hunger protest.
In a statement in Asaba, the President of the chapter, Chief Uju Udeme, noted that members of the Association chose to be calm, considering the fact that the protest could add to the sufferings of the masses.
He also thanked the apprentices in the trading business for acting along the same line with their masters, which showed that they had the interest of the country and Delta State at heart.
Chief Udeme, who is also the Chairman, Rice Millers Association, Delta State chapter, said it was obvious that the protest could worsen the already bad situation, which was not the solution needed, stressing that Nigerians should rather strive to be more creative and innovative to be able to survive the hard times
While acknowledging the right of citizens to protest, the business mogul and politician emphasized the need for Nigerians to be conscious of the dynamics of the global economy, which Nigeria should not be isolated from,
He called for support for government’s ongoing efforts to find immediate and long term solutions to the myriad of problems facing the country, which could hardly be addressed over night, saying that, “we have no other country that we can call our own”.
Chief Udeme urged traders in the state to be part of the efforts to cushion the effects of the hardship by being considerate enough when fixing the prices of their wares, especially food items.
