The July edition of the state monthly environmental sanitation exercise took place in Aniocha South local government area, with the Council Chairman, Pastor Jude Chukwunwike, leading a monitoring team in Ogwashi-Uku, the LGA headquarters.
He was accompanied by the Vice Chairman, Hon. Patricia Adoule, former Vice Chairman, Hon Amaka Adigwe, Leader of the Legislative Arm, Hon Leo Nzemeka and the Secretary to the Local Government, Prince Tony Ebube,
Though the exercise recorded usual compliance on the part of residents, some business premises were found untidy and were summarily sealed while residents whose homes had blocked drains got immediate sanctions either by way of being compelled to clean up the drains or pay appropriate fines.
In an interview with Journalists, Hon Chukwunwike said achieving a clean environment in Aniocha South was not negotiable, stressing that the whole essence of the clean up exercise was to ensure a healthy environment that would promote healthy living by getting rid of breeding grounds for reptiles, rodents, bacteria and mosquitoesÂ
The Council Chairman urged the people of the area not to wait to be reminded of the need to keep their surroundings clean, assuring that the Council, under his watch, would continue to place emphasis on the well-being of people.
He commended the Environment department of the Council for its commitment to keeping the Local Government Area clean and promised continued support for the department and indeed other departments, with a view to promoting the synergy needed to drive the policies and programmes of the Council.
