The Warri, Uvwie and Environs Special Area Development Agency, (WUEDA), has given residents of the metropolis seven days within which to clean up all blocked drains in their areas, or face severe sanctions.
The Director General of WUEDA, Prince Godwin Ejinyere, gave the warning in his Effurun Office on while reacting to the Federal Government’s warning that the volume of rain that would fall in July, August and September would be so high that it would cause unprecedented flooding in many parts of Nigeria.
He said besides causing destruction of lives and property of residents, flooding also caused serious health problems such as cholera which had been ravaging parts of the country very recently.
Prince Ejinyere, therefore, urged all landlords, company, and office owners, as well as banks, schools and hotels, to comply with this warning or face unpleasant consequences.
Recall that in its recent weather forecast, the Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NIMET) predicted that there would be flooding between July and September 2024 in the Southern States, as well as in Kogi, Kwara, FCT, Niger, and Kaduna States in the North.
NIMET also predicted that 33 States and 135 LGAs were at high risk of flooding, while 19 States and 44 LGAs were at lower risk.
