A reputable sociocultural organisation in the country, De Saints International Club, at the weekend organized a free eye care programme at Issele-Uku, in Aniocha North local government area of Delta State.

Over 300 patients with different eye related challenges were attended to by a formidable team of ophthalmologists and other health workers.

The beneficiaries received counselling, free drugs and reading glasses after the necessary checks, while glasses for short sighted ones would be made available to them later.

Speaking on the occasion, the  Mayor of the Club, Ekemejero Ohwovoriole (SAN), said the organisation was made up of people of like minds committed to putting smiles on the faces of the less privileged through charity works and philanthropy.

Ohwovoriole, who is the State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, explained that the choice of the Club’s engagements was determined by what the members, spread across the state, wanted for their communities, after thorough needs assessments.

He urges the members to continue to uphold the ideals of the Club, remain united and focused on pulling resources to give back to society.

The Deputy Mayor and Chairman, Charity Committee  of the Club, Sekene Akpobowei, said impacting the life of the less privileged was the main thrust of the organisation founded about three decades ago.

Akpobowei noted that the Club was happy with the turnout and outcome of the Issele-Uku outing because many elderly men and women, who either lacked the resources to access quality eye care or hardly had the time to do so, benefitted from the programme.

Some of the beneficiaries, including Mr Pius Okobi, Madam Grace Omelebele and a visually impaired young man, thanked De Saints Club Int’l for the gesture, which they said was the first of its kind in Issele-Uku, affirming that they were satisfied with the checks, counsel and treatment received.
