The PDP family, in Oshimili South Local Government Area Ward 5, on Friday, defied the heavy downpour that characterized the day, to show uncommon solidarity and support to the party’s candidate for the July 13 Council election, Dr. Kelvin Ezenyili.

This was at the visit of the LGA’s Campaign Council, led by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Peace Building and Conflict Resolution, Chief Edwin Uzor, to canvass support for Dr Ezenyili and the ward’s two Councilorship candidates, Chuka Mordi and Endurance Emiator.

Addressing the campaign rally, which had elderly women and a cross section of party faithful, including the youths seated at the heavily flooded Ogwa Umuezeafadia arena in Asaba, the leader of the ward, Hon Taju Isichei, thanked the party for discovering Dr Ezenyili as its Chairmanship candidate for the election.

Hon Isichei, an Executive Assistant to the Governor on Community Development, popularly called IKUKU, recalled that he met stiff opposition when he muted the idea of having Dr Ezenyili as the party’s sole Chairmanship aspirant for the election in Oshimili South, stressing that the affirmation of Dr Ezenyili’s candidacy by the party in the primaries  vindicated him.

He assured the Campaign Council that there was no going back in delivering Dr Ezenyili and the two Councilorship candidates from the ward come July 13 and urged Dr Ezenyili to address some challenges facing Umuaji village when re-elected.

In his remarks, the outgoing LGA Caretaker Committee Chairman of the party, Ogbueshi Dada Okonji, noted that the support of ward 5 for PDP in previous elections had always been total and expressed optimism that the forthcoming Council election would not be an exception.

Also speaking at the rally, the member representing Oshimili South in the State Assembly, Hon Bridget Anyafulu, appealed to the people of ward 5 to vote for Dr Ezenyili, whom she described as one of their own, as well as the two Councilorship candidates, promising them that they would be better for it.

For his part, the ward coordinator of the LGA Campaign Council, Chukwuma Ajufo, said with the thorough campaign already carried out and the good showing of the immediate past Council Chairman, Dr Kelvin Ezenyili, who is also the Chairmanship candidate, victory for the party was a done deal.

Earlier, while welcoming the Campaign Council, the Chairman of the ward, Ogbueshi Chiedu Nwokolo, revealed that the campaign for the re-election of Dr Ezenyili, code-named EKO’ 24, started in ward 5 and actualizing it in the ward was a task that must be done come July 13, 2024.

Responding, Dr Ezenyili, who was presented with the party’s flag, along with the Councilorship candidates at the rally, thanked the ward for the confidence reposed in them and urged the people to translate their support to votes in the election.

Dr Ezenyili assured the people of Oshimili South that the in-coming administration would surpass the performance of the immediate past.
