The Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, has reiterated the resolved of the State Legislature to partner with other arms of government in ensuring good governance, peace and prosperity in the state.
The Speaker stated this in his office when he played host to the Presiding Judge of the Asaba branch of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria, Hon. Justice O.A Ogunbowale, who paid a courtesy visit to the State Assembly.
Flanked by some Principal Officers of the House, including the Deputy Speaker, Arthur Akpowowo, Majority Leader, Emeka Nwaobi, Deputy Majority Leader, Festus Okoh, and Deputy Majority Whip, Prince Emeka Osamuta, Guwor said improved and sustainable welfare of Deltans remained a top priority for the State Assembly.
The Speaker explained that the symbiotic relationship between the three arms of government in Delta State was largely instrumental to the peace, robust infrastructural development and social-economic growth and stability in the state
While stressing that the 8th Assembly under his watch would continue to strengthen its collaboration with relevant stakeholders towards the overall prosperity of the state, Guwor, who is the National Treasurer, Conference of Speakers of State Houses of Assembly in Nigeria, also posited that the state had been favoured by God.
He emphasized that the state would not take the love of God for Deltans for granted, hence the reason for an existing law setting aside May 29 every year for thanksgiving to return all glory to God.
“Delta is one of the states we can boldly say that God loves so much. That is indeed the reason we are succeeding in the state.
“The state remains on a path of growth, prosperity and sustainable development. Asaba is peaceful, the entire state is peaceful.
“We of the 8th Delta State House of Assembly shall continue to legislate for peace and good governance in the state and ensure that the state is very habitable for Deltans and visitors to the state.
“We will maintain strong synergy and collaborate with the Executive and Judicial arms of government, as well as every critical institution and stakeholder in ensuring improved and sustainable welfare of the people”, Guwor said.
The Speaker thanked Justice Ogunbowale for the visit and her words of encouragement for peace, good governance and development in the state.
Earlier in her brief remarks, the Presiding Judge, Asaba branch of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria, Hon. Justice O.A. Ogunbowale, told the Speaker that the visit was to familiarize herself with the office.
She said the thanksgiving service held to commemorate the 1st anniversary of the 8th Assembly led by the Speaker was a step in the right direction and congratulated the House for the achievements recorded so far.
While urging members of the Assembly to remain focused on achieving more progress in the state, Justice Ogunbowale acknowledged the friendly atmosphere in Asaba and called for its sustenance to encourage greater peace and development in the state.
