Preparatory to the conduct of a free, fair and credible local government election come July 13, 2024, the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission DSIEC, has organized a one-day Train-the-Trainer workshop for Electoral Commissioners, Directors and other top management staff of the Commission.
The workshop focuses on the various components of the electoral process and hopes to inculcate and acquaint participants with the necessary knowledge, skills and attitude needed for the various assignments on Election-Day in the 5,863 Units and 500 Electoral Wards spread across the 25 Local Government Areas of the state.
Declaring the workshop open, DSIEC Chairman, Sir. Raphael Jerry Agbaike, said the knowledge the participants would acquire was key to a successful election, adding that they were expected to pass same on to the 25 Local Government Returning Officers, 500 Ward Returning Officers, 500 Supervisory Presiding Officers; 5,863 Presiding Officers and Polling Clerks.
He reiterated the mandate of the Commission to conduct free, fair and credible elections by providing a level playing field to all political parties and their candidates based on the principles of equity, fairness and justice.
Topics discussed at the Train-the-Trainer workshop included Election Information Management & Control delivered by Mr. E. Abraka, a retired Permanent Secretary; Election-Day Administration, Principles and Practice delivered by Chief C. O. Onwuma.
Other topics treated at the workshop included Legal Issues Arising from the Conduct of Local Government Elections by Barr. Friday Edmund Seimode, Functions of Electoral Personnel by Hon. Chief (Engr.) James I. Umukoro while Mr. James Okocha handled the topic, Practical Applications And Proper Completion of Electoral Forms & Documents.
