DELTA 8th ASSEMBLY SET FOR YEAR 2 LEGISLATIVE BUSINESS AS 1st ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION END

Activities marking the first anniversary of the 8th Assembly of the Delta State Legislature were rounded off on Sunday with a thanksgiving at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Region 34 headquarters, Unity Model Parish, Asaba 

In his remarks, the State Governor, Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, who attended the service, urged members of the State Assembly to rededicate themselves to serving their constituents, so that God would continue to bless the state against all odds.

Obirevwiei noted that the prevailing hard times in the country notwithstanding, the state had been enjoying peace and progress in the past one year at his administration, pointing out that infrastructural and human capital Development had significantly received attention without the state borrowing a dime to fund them 

The Governor said God had been faithful to the state as people who lived outside of it were marvelled at the level of peace and progress being enjoyed by the people of the state.

He added “There is also abundance, for us to be in this hard times in Nigeria, Delta State has not borrowed in the last one year. 

“You can see that members of the State House of Assembly are shining and I have told them that whatever other states are doing and we are not doing we will do it for them because they are great partners in the administration of the state”. 

In his remarks, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, said the Assembly was thanking God for His infinite mercy over all the members of the House and for the one year anniversary of the 8th Assembly which was inaugurated June 13, 2023. 

Guwor said the 8th Assembly was unique because it had one of its own and immediate past Presiding Officer of the House as Governor. 

He said the Governor perfectly  understood the workings of the State House of Assembly, accounting for the robust partnership the House had enjoyed with the Executive and thanked members of the House for the cooperation among them and respect for the leadership of the Assembly.

The Speaker commended Deltans for selecting the best hands to represent them in the 8th Assembly, revealing that the House received 18 bills (Executive and Private Member) out of which nine had been passed and three assented to.

He lauded Deltans for the confidence reposed in the House, assuring that they would not let them down. 

In a sermon, the Region 34 Pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Asaba, Pastor Olufemi Olumide, said thanksgiving had the key to open all doors and commended the 8th Assembly for appreciating God with a thanksgiving. 

Pastor Olumide said the 8th Assembly was unique as it represented a new beginning in the affairs of the State Legislature, saying that the occasion had created accommodation for Christ to be at the centre of the affairs of the state. 

The thanksgiving service was attended by wife of the Governor, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, the Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, immediate past Deputy Governor, Deacon Kingsley Otuaro, State Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olorogun Kingsley Esiso, Hon. Thomas Ereyitomi and Hon. Nnamdi Ezechi of the House of Representatives.

Also at the thanksgiving service were the State Chief Judge, Justice Theresa Diai, High Chief Tunde Smooth, MD of Tantita Security Services, Chief Keston Pondi, the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom and Chairman Delta State Traditional Rulers Council, HRM Maj-Gen Felix Mujakperuo Orhue I, among other dignitaries.

At the end of the service, guests were treated to a reception at the Legislators’ Quarters, on Okpanam road, where Governor Sheriff Oborevwori unveiled the 8th Legislative Agenda of the House.
