Six chieftains of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and twenty four others in Orerokpe Ward One, Okpe LGA have decamped to the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP.

The APC big-wigs, who jumped ship with their supporters, held their brooms, voter and membership cards, and danced into the arena where Orerokpe Ward One PDP leaders and members were holding their meeting.

Notable amongst the 30 APC faithful were Deacon French Afe, Mr. Peter Iguele, Barrister Emmanuel Erharhire, Comrade Onome Otarhonor, Mr. Peter Agatevure, and Sarah Akpokerewan.

“Our decision to leave the APC was for us to enjoy the protective, accommodating and cool shelter provided under the large PDP umbrella”, they said.

Receiving the 30 APC decampees on behalf of the Ward, a political juggernaut in the area, and Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matters, Hon. Ramson Ikweki, said by this, Orerokpe PDP Ward One no longer had opposition.

The brooms, voter and membership cards submitted by the decampees were then set ablaze before a mammoth crowd of PDP faithful, after  which the decampees were given an umbrella each to officially welcome them to the PDP family.

Hon. Ikweki told them that they would repeat the exercise in a bigger way, when all the PDP leaders in Okpe LGA would gather at an enlarged political forum in Asaba.

Chief Ikweki noted that a University campus had been established in Orerokpe, courtesy of the Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, whom he commended for his wonderful work in the entire state and appreciated the youths for working hard for the victory of the PDP, and Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, an Okpe son from Okpe LGA.

Earlier, a staunch PDP leader in the Ward, Chief Francis Okan, a political appointee of Governor Oborevwori,  noted that election was a collective effort, and described Orerokpe Ward One as the light of PDP in Okpe LGA.

In his opening speech, the Ward One PDP Chairman, Comrade Paul Ogbogbor thanked everyone for working hard towards electing Okpe-born Rt. Hon. Sheriff Francis Oborevwori as Delta State Governor, and urged all to sustain the tempo in all subsequent elections.

In a keynote address, a foremost PDP leader in Orerokpe Ward One, and Director General of Warri, Uvwie and Environs Special Area Development Agency, WUEDA, Hon. Prince Godwin Ejinyere, said the PDP was a big political family with the capacity to accommodate new members and decampees.

“You are welcome. We are already together. The end of one election is the beginning of another. LGA election is by the corner. Let’s all join hands to deliver all our PDP candidates in that election”, he appealed.

Prince Ejinyere, the Duke of Orerokpe District, said the gathering was for the leadership of the PDP to rub minds after the last general elections, introduce the two PDP councillorship candidates that would represent Orerokpe Wards One A and B, as well as receive the APC heavyweights in the Ward back to the PDP fold.

While thanking Ward One PDP family for voting for the PDP and electing Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori as Governor, Okakuro Ejinyere said the establishment of a University campus in Orerokpe, and the ongoing restructuring of the Central Hospital in Orerokpe to an ultra modern Teaching Hospital status, as well as many ongoing road projects in Okpe LGA, were some of the beautiful outcomes of the MORE Agenda of the Oborevwori administration.

“Appreciation is an application for more. It is time for monkey to work and chop. The University will provide jobs for Okpe people. Roads are being constructed in Okpe Kingdom and other parts of Delta State, showing that Governor Sheriff is working”, Ejinyere affirmed.

According to the WUEDA Director General, “everybody cannot get political appointments but everybody will benefit from the Oborevwori administration in different ways.

“This is our time to shine. Our efforts shall not be in vain. Orerokpe Central Hospital project will cost over N4bn, all these in just one year in office of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

“After this time, more will come. No evil will happen in Okpe again. Your votes for Governor Sheriff Oborevwori were not wasted”.

Corroborating Prince Ejinyere’s statements, another PDP leader in Orerokpe Ward One, Chief Barrister Isaacs Itebu commended the decampees for their wise and timely decision, and assured them of equity, justice and fair play in the PDP Orerokpe Ward One family.

The meeting climaxed in a camaraderie, as the PDP leaders, other members and the 30 APC decampees took to the dance floor to celebrate the reunion of the PDP family in Orerokpe Ward One.
