The State Government has been commended for its support for the Nigerian Immigration Service.
The Delta State Comptroller of Immigration Service (CIS) Idris Mohammed Yako, gave the commendation at the Ibusa headquarters of the Comnand while speaking to newsmen.
CIS Yako said the government had been quite supportive in the areas of land allocation, office accommodation and residential quarters, adding that the ongoing Passport Office project at the headquarters was not without the support of the state government.
He explained that though the State Command of the Immigration Service had its logistics problems, they had largely been managed within the limits of available resources to maximize productivity
On how the Command had been coping with its core mandate, CIS Yako said steps had been taken to ease the processes of obtaining Nigerian travel documents, including the international and ECOWAS passports.
He pointed out that solar power systems had been installed at the State headquarters and Warri passport office of the Command to ensure seamless processing and issuance of travel documents, which he said had led to the clearing of backlogs of passports, in line with the initiative of the Comptroller General of the Nigerian Immigration Service, Mrs Kemi Nanna Nandap.
The Nigerian Immigration Service State Comptroller said the smuggling of migrants, child labour and trafficking in persons had been brought under control in the state through aggressive sensitization campaigns and effective border surveillance.
He congratulated the State Governor, Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, on his one year in office and urged him to continue with his good works in the years ahead
