The landlords and tenants living in Orerhi, Eraye, Odjugo, Okiki, Omokoko, Apala and adjoining streets of Okumagba Layout, Warri, have appealed to the Director General of the Warri, Uvwie and Environs Special Area Development Agency, WUEDA, Prince Godwin Ejinyere, to help solve the perennial flooding problem facing the areas.

The Coordinator of the group, Mr. God’spower Omadebo, made the appeal on Monday when he led a delegation on a courtesy visit to Hon. Ejinyere in his office at Effurun.

Mr Omadebo thanked the State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Francis Oborevwori, for focusing on the development of the Oil City.

He alleged that some residents of Giwa Amu street dumped refuse into the gutters thereby blocking the culvert meant to channel flood water from Apala to Fani Kayode, and to Edjeba main drainage channel, appealing to the Agency to intervene so as to save lives and property in the affected areas.

Responding, the Director General of WUEDA, Prince Godwin Ejinyere, commended the group for the peaceful approach to the issues raised, adding that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori was committed to the massive development of Warri, Uvwie and the environs.

Prince Ejinyere also appreciated the group for displaying unity and purposefulness in their approach, urging the members to be patient while waiting for solutions.

He told them that a Mobile Court to prosecute offenders was already in place, and would soon start work in earnest.

The WUEDA DG urged leaders of the group to enlighten residents of their areas on the need to clean up the drains always to allow free flow of water, as there would be awards for the cleanest areas in the future.

Prince Ejinyere promised that the Agency would visit the affected areas in a week’s time for an on-the-spot assessment to enable the Agency determine how to temporarily alleviate their plight, pending when a permanent solution would be found.

He reiterated the Governor’s desire to transform Warri and its environs into an enviable metropolis, adding that WUEDA had keyed into that mandate towards restoring the lost glory of the Oil City.

Highpoint of the visit was the presentation of the group’s request letter to the Director General of WUEDA, Prince Godwin Ejinyere.

A member of WUEDA Board of Directors, Mr. Isaac Itobi; the Director of Admin and Finance, Mr. Simon Esi, that of Projects, Engr. Bemigno Ofoyenor, as well as the Director of Investment, Mr. Kingdom Appi, were among WUEDA staff present during the visit.
