The Delta State Ministry of Justice has approved a Mobile Court for the Warri, Uvwie and Environs Special Area Development Agency, (WUEDA), to prosecute environmental law offenders in the area.
The Director General of the Agency, Prince Godwin Ejinyere, disclosed this on Thursday when he led a delegation of the Agency to visit the management of Uvwie Local Government at the Council Secretariat, Effurun.
Prince Ejinyere told the Acting Chairman and Head of Personnel Management of Uvwie Local Government, Mrs. Juliana Manager, that five (5) Magistrates hadcalso been assigned to the Agency, while a Task Force would be set up in a week’s time to work with the Mobile Court,
Hon. Ejinyere noted that the Local Government would need to assign some of its environmental health officers to be incorporated to the Task Force for more effective enforcement, as it would no longer be business as usual.
He said Governor Sheriff Oborevwori was determined to transform Warri, Uvwie and the environs to a city to behold through the Agency, adding that the Agency was very ready to work with the Local Government towards changing the bad narratives about the once popular Oil City.
Responding, the Acting Chairman of Uvwie Local Government, Mrs. Juliana Manager, congratulated Hon. Ejinyere on his appointment as the DG of WUEDA, describing him as a square peg in a square hole following his track records and pedigree.
Mrs Manager promised that the Council would collaborate with the Agency, as partners in progress, to achieve the set goals.
The Treasurer to Uvwie Local Government, Mr. Bishop Etakebo was among senior officers of the Council who supported Mrs. Manager to receive Prince Ejinyere and his team, comprising a WUEDA Board member, Mr. Isaac Itobi, and the Agency’s Director of Administration and Finance, Mr. Simon Esi, amongst others.
