A member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ward 9, Oshimili Sourh local government area, Tobechukwu Okonkwo, who jumped ship ahead of the 2023 general election, is back to the party with his teeming supporters.
Tobe was welcomed back to the PDP family on Sunday in Asaba by the Delta North Senatorial Chairman of the party, Elder Moses Iduh, who noted that PDP lost the Presidential and Governorship elections in Ward 9 due to massive defection of members ahead of the elections.
Elder Iduh,, however, expressed delight that PDP won the Governorship election in Delta state, which had made it imperative for those who left the party to come back and join in strengthening the part and supporting the Oborevwori administration.
He thanked Tobe for coming back to the party he originally belonged after a miscalculated political adventure, assuring him that he and his supporters would be treated as bonafide members of the PDP because they were not known to have defected.
Also speaking on the occasion, the Oshimili South LGA PDP Chairman, Ogbueshi Dada Okonji, said there was room for others who left the party to return and urged Ward and Cell leaders to seek ways to reunite with such persons
Ogbueshi Okonji maintained that PDP had no opposition in Oshimili South, stressing that it was fruitless for any politician in the LGA to belong to any political party other than the PDP.
Earlier, the Ward Chairman, Mr. Austin Mgbeme, said the party valued Tobechukwu, whom he described as an asset, and was delighted to have him and his teeming supporters back to the Ward.
In his remarks, Tobechukwu Okonkwo, thanked the party for accepting him and his supporters back, saying that if every other member of the Ward had left like he did, the party would have collapsed.
He regretted leaving the PDP and begged for forgiveness, pledging to be absolutely loyal to the party, along with his supporters.
