The Chairman of Ndokwa West Local Government Council, Chief Godday Obi Nzete, has assured residents of the area that security will remain a top priority of his administration.

Chief Nzete gave the assurance while declaring open a three-day training programme for 200 local vigilante operatives at Kwale, the Council headquarters.

He noted that criminal activities were increasing by the day in both urban and rural areas of the state, with Ndokwa West LGA not an exception, pointing out that the role of vigilante groups in complementing the efforts of the conventional security agencies in combating crime could not be over emphasized.

The Council Chairman, who promised logistics support for the vigilante operatives, urged them to work closely with the Police and other security agencies to reduce crime in the area.

Chief Nzete specifically warned the operatives against aiding and abetting crime, insisting that they should not allow themselves to be used to settle quarrels nor arrogate to themselves the powers of arrest and detention, which he stressed were exclusive to the Police.

He commended the conventional Police formations in Ndokwa West LGA for their commitment to crime fighting and control, urging them to closely monitor the activities of the vigilante operatives to ensure they were in line with the laws of the land.
