The Director General of the Warri, Uvwie and Environs Special Area Development Agency, WUEDA, Prince Godwin Ejinyere, has directed all contractors handling state government projects to mount signposts indicating the name of the awarding Ministry, the contract and the supervisory Agency, WUEDA.
Prince Ejinyere gave the directive on Monday while inspecting road and drainage projects at Ogunu community, in Warri South, awarded by the Delta State Government and being supervised by WUEDA.
He urged the contractor to mount the signposts on or before Friday 16th Feb, 2024, to avoid a situation where other organizations or agencies would claim ownership of the projects awarded and executed by the Delta State Government.
The DG observed that some sections of the drainage project were not constructed according to specifications, especially in terms of depth and width, while the finishings were rough and unpresentable, and some slabs broken, directing that such slabs be removed.
At Tony Mene Akpata road, Prince Ejinyere observed that the drains were blocked with refuse dumped by some community residents who also evacuated their liquid wastes into the open drains.
He wondered why some persons should tip left over sands and granites on top of drainage slabs, a situation he said helped to block the drains, causing flooding during the rainy season.
The WUEDA DG directed the contractor to de-silt all blocked drains as soon as possible, while all debris should be removed to give the project a beautiful look.
Prince Ejinyere charged the community youths to work in synergy with their elders to properly supervise the clearing of the drains on environmental sanitation days, and ensure compliance.
He warned those in the habit of dumping refuse into drainage channels to desist forthwith or risk being severely sanctioned, and asked the Ogunu community EXCO to place the “No Dumping of Refuse” sign posts at strategic locations in the community to ward off offenders.
Prince Ejinyere said Governor Sheriff Oborevwori had a burning desire to transform Warri, Uvwie and the environs into a beautiful Mega City and would, therefore, not tolerate any act of sabotage by community people who were the beneficiaries of government projects.
The WUEDA DG, however, commended CENTDRAKEN construction firm for the quality of work done in some aspects of the projects, and urged residents to play their role by ensuring that the contractors delivered quality projects in their areas.
He advised the communities to take ownership of the projects so that the desire of the Governor to develop, beautify and restore Warri to its past glory could be realized.
Responding, the Vice Chairman of Ogunu community, Mr. Omasenowa Eris, thanked the state government for the projects, and promised that the lapses observed by the DG would be corrected as soon as possible.
He appealed to the government to execute more development projects in the community.
WUEDA’s Director of Projects, Engr. Bemigho Ofoeyenor and other engineers in the Agency, accompanied Prince Ejinyere on the inspection visit.
