DELTA ASSEMBLY CALLS FOR STAKEHOLDERS’ INPUTS TO PERSONS LIVING WITH DISABILITY BILL

Delta State House of Assembly Joint Committee on Housing, Women Affairs, Girl Child Entrepreneurship, Humanitarian Support Services, and Special Committee on Bills, has called for memoranda on the Delta State Protection of Persons with Disability Bill.

A statement by the Chairman, Assembly Committee on Housing, Women Affairs, Girl Child Entrepreneurship and Humanitarian Support Services, Hon Bridget Anyafulu, says the public inputs is a part of the legislative process in the making of the proposed law.

Hon Anyafulu explained that in pursuance of the mandate, the Committee would welcome written contributions from interested organizations, institutions and individuals, including the Delta State Ministries of Women Affairs and Social Development, Humanitarian Affairs, Community Support Services and Girl Child Development, as well as Ministry of Housing.

The Lawmaker, who represents Oshimili South in the House, also named the Directorate of Establishment and Pensions, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Non Governmental Organizations, among others, where inputs were also being expected in the making of the new law.

According to her, all memoranda should be in twenty copies, enclosed in sealed envelope and addressed to the Committee, marked “Delta State Protection of Persons with Disability Bill” and forwarded to the Committee on or before Thursday 8th February, 2024.

The joint Committee is expected to meet to scrutinize and discuss the inputs of the various stakeholders before presenting its report to the House.

It will be recalled that the Assembly, at its sitting on Wednesday, 24th January, 2024, referred the Delta State Protection of Persons with Disability Bill to the joint Committee after the Bill was read for the second time at plenary, presided over by the Speaker, Rt Hon Emomotimi Guwor.
