Members of PDP ward 5, in Oshimili South local government area, have been urged to focus on how to better the lot of the party and not allow themselves to be misled by those who have benefited from the system.
The leader of the ward and Executive Assistant to the Governor on Community Development, Hon Taju Isichei, made the call on Sunday while addressing the monthly meeting of the ward at Umuaji village, Asaba.
Hon Isichei, popularly called IKUKU, said while he was not suggesting that party leaders should be disrespected, it was important for members to separate their interests from those of whoever was encouraging them to work against the party.
He disclosed that a date base had been set up for members of the ward, adding that the list of beneficiaries of previous empowerment programmes had been compiled and would be meticulously cross checked in subsequent programmes to avoid duplications.
The EA assured members of the ward that the era of insincerity and double standard in party affairs was gone for good and urged them to go all out to win more members for the party until the opposition was completely smoked out of existence in the ward.
Hon Isichei reminded party faithful that the local government election was close by and appealed to them to support his choice aspirant for the Oshimili South Local Government Chairmanship seat, Dr Kelvin Ezenyili.
In her remarks, the Oshimili South LGA Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, 0samgbi Franca, commended ward 5 for being consistent with its monthly meetings, and called on other wards to emulate them.
She urged members of the ward to be wary of detractors who would want to deceive them ahead of the forthcoming local government election in the state, insisting that it should be PDP all the way.
Earlier, the Chairman of the ward, Ogbueshi Chinedu Nwokolo, said the monthly meetings had come to stay and every member should endeavour to attend regularly in order not to be left out in the scheme of things.
Ogbueshi Nwokolo said only loyal and committed members aspiring to contest the Councillorship election would enjoy the support of the ward, pointing out that the aspirants must themselves support the ward ahead of the primary election.
Some party faithful who spoke at the meeting pledged their loyalty to the leadership of the ward and promised to work for the good of the ward.
Four members of the opposition joined the PDP during the meeting and were issued their membership cards by the Ward Chairman, Ogbueshi Chinedu Nwokolo, assisted by Hon Taju Isichei.
