The State Government says the process of securing, cleaning and greening the State Capital Territory has started and is gaining momentum.

The Director-General of the Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency, Chief Patrick Ukah, disclosed this at the symbolic planting of 1000 trees to commemorate the centenary birth anniversary of the Asagba of Asaba, Prof Chike Edozien.

Chief Ukah recalled that towards the end of last year, DSCTDA launched a sensitization campaign on secure, clean and green the State Capital Territory as part of measures to mitigate the effects of climate change.

He expressed delight that the Asagba of Asaba Centenary Birth Anniversary Committee chose the planting of 1000 trees as part of the activities lined up for the epoch making event and commended the organizers for the initiative.

The former Secretary to the State Government said greening the environment was not all about planting trees and urged residents of the State Capital Territory to also plant flowers in any available space in the compounds.

Chief Ukah said though the Agency had ended its 21-day sensitization campaign, after which enforcement of compliance with the extant environmental laws ought to have started, he had extended the date to give residents more time to do the needful.

He, however, explained that no further extension would be granted, pointing out that anyone found wanting would served the necessary papers to appear in court, as the Agency would not resort to physically engaging any violator.
