Newly appointed Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Mr Nkem Nwaeke, has solicited the support of his colleagues in achieving more visibility to the State Legislature.

Mr Nwaeke, who spoke when he visited the DBS Warri Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, expressed gratitude to members for their support over the years, first as the broadcast station’s Government House Correspondent and later the State Assembly Correspondent, until his appointment as Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Rt Hon Emomotimi Dennis Guwor.

Addressing members of the Union at the Edjeba-Warri office of the establishment, Mr Nwaeke thanked the Speaker for the appointment and promised not only to uphold those virtues that earned him the appointment, but also to improve on them.

“I was overwhelmed with calls and congratulatory messages, especially from the NUJ DBS Warri Chapel, after the Speaker announced my appointment as his Chief Press Secretary at the close of plenary on Tuesday December 19, 2023.

“My assignment is to give visibility to the Speaker of the Delta State Assembly and by extension the State Legislature as he is the Presiding Officer of the House.

“I can not effectively take off on the new task without coming to this family to say thank you for the support over the years and to solicit more support.

“My Principal, the Speaker, Rt Hon Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, amiable and humble, belongs here. He is from Warri Federal Constituency. So DBS Warri has a lot to do for me in carrying the news of his efficient stewardship to the grassroots.

“This appointment is for all of us so we must all work hard to  succeed”, Nwaeke said.

The new CPS also thanked the management and staff of the establishment for their co-operation over the years and promised to remain a good ambassador of the station.

He expressed optimism that the existing cordial relations between the Executive and Legislative arms of government in Delta state would further promote good governance in the state, and that DBS Warri would surely get better for it.

The General Manager, Pastor Malcolm Oteri, commended the CPS, Mr Nkem Nwaeke, for making DBS Warri proud, stressing that the appointment was not just for him but the entire establishment.

The GM thanked the Speaker for the appointment of one of their own as CPS, which he said was well deserved and would benefit the establishment.

“To add my voice to the NUJ DBS Warri Chapel and staff of the news room, we are very grateful to Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Emomotimi Guwor for finding one of us worthy of this appointment, it is a thing of honour for us in DBS Warri. This is just the beginning. More promotions will come to us as individuals and as an establishment.

“Nkem got to where he is today through hard work and dedication to assigned duties. I want to encourage other staff of DBS Warri to continue to be dedicated to their duties as there are many rewards for hard work”, the GM said.

In their remarks, the Acting Head of News and Current Affairs Department, Mrs Itse Igboje, Deputy General Manager, News, Mr Linus Chima and the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, DBS Warri Chapel, Comrade John Glover, urged the newly appointed CPS to remain focused and dedicated to his duty as the spokesperson of the Speaker.

While appealing that the interest of DBS Warri should be well represented in his new position, the officials charged Mr Nwaeke to remain a shining example and a good ambassador of the establishment.

They thanked the Speaker, Emomotimi Guwor whom they described as a quintessential Warri Boy, for the choice of Mr Nkem Nwaeke as his CPS and the Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, whom they also described as another Warri Boy, for approving the appointment.

The visit was attended by members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, DBS Warri Chapel.
