UGBODU CALLS FOR GOVERNMENT PRESENCE AS COMMUNITY – SPONSORED WATER PROJECT IS COMMISSIONED

Ugbodu community, in Aniocha North local government area of Delta state, has appealed to the Delta State Government to show presence in the land in order to give the locality the sense of belonging.

The traditional ruler of the community, Obi (Barr) Ayo Isinyemeze, made the passionate appeal when the State Governor, Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, visited for the commissioning of the 212-feet deep water borehole executed by the community through self-help and the entrepreneurial seed sowing in the lives of some Indigenes of the locality.

Obi Isinyemeze said government presence was lacking in his domain, pointing out that all the projects executed in the community were through self-help.

He particularly urged the Governor, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Hon Prince Johnson Erijo, to tar the access road to the Community Secondary School, which he revealed was also in dire need of teachers, as members of the National Youth Service Corps usually deployed to the school never stayed beyond their service years.

The Ugbodu king commended his subjects for their resourcefulness and commitment to community development, stressing that their oneness of purpose accounted for the bridging of the gap which lack of government presence would have created.

Obi Isinyemeze pledged the continued support of his community for the state government, but insisted that the area should be made to feel the impact of government in order to enhance the socioeconomic life of the people.

Responding, the Governor’s representative, Hon Prince Johnson Erijo, thanked the Ugbodu community for supporting the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the last general election and assured the people that the MORE agenda of the Oborevwori administration would positively affect them.

The Chief of Staff promised to channel the requests of the community to the appropriate quarters with a view to ameliorating the plight of the people, stressing that the community deserved more than the one-point-five kilometer road being asked for.

16 public spirited individuals contributed to the funding of the water project and the seed capital disbursement programme and were awarded plaques.

They include, Barr Ifeanyi Ochei, Dele Bardi, Ayo Nwachi, Dr Isaac Amankwe, Engr. Alex Ebigwai, Engr. Sylvester Ofulue, Nduka Ugbade, Esenamunjor Godwin, Jude Onwudili, HRN Barr Ayo Isinyemeze, Emmanuel Mogbolu, Okwudili Nduka, Peter Nnamdi, Temofe Momah, among others.

The beneficiaries of the seed capital disbursement were Maria Erueziem, Elizabeth Kikanme, Evelyn Anyasi, Rachael Okolie, Gloria Ndudi, Clementine Uzoma, Mozare Samuel, Chinedu Efo, Helen Oboh, Onyema Kanayo, Akaeze Omaye, Mrs Edobor, Godwin Achomba, Azuka Kanayo, Okolie Chinedu, Odikawse Chidi and Mrs Okeluwa Gordon.

The President of Ugbodu Development Union, Prof Joseph Ebigwai, while addressing the gathering, said the disbursement would be expanded in due course to accommodate other communities in Odiani clan.
