The Commanding Officer 3 Battalion, Effurun Barracks of the Nigerian Army, Major Emmanuel Austin Ohegbe, says the Army will provide the needed security support for the operations of the Warri, Uvwie and Environs Special Area Devt Agency, (WUEDA), during critical moments.
Major Ohegbe gave the assurance when he played host to the Director General of the Agency, Hon. Prince Godwin Ejinyere and his team who paid him a courtesy visit in his office.
He reminded Hon. Ejinyere of the enormous challenges the Agency would face in the course of carrying out its day-to-day official assignments but encouraged him not to be deterred by resistance, so long as WUEDA was on the right track to develop Warri, Uvwie and environs, in line with its mandate.
The Army Officer said the present state of the Warri metropolis fell terribly short of expectations of visitors, including himself who had pictured the Warri as a highbrow skyscraper city before now.
The Commanding Officer assured Prince Ejinyere and his WUEDA team of his support at all times but advised him to contact the barracks only as the last line of support, after exhausting the other support lines such as the Police and Task Force.
He said all endeavours such as the Agency’s activities needed security cover to be able to succeed and
advised the WUEDA DG to engage all other security agencies for better outcomes.
Major Ohegbe commended the DG and his team for the visit and awareness campaign efforts, describing same as very laudable initiatives.
The Commanding Officer enjoined the DG to do his best to achieve the set objectives of the Agency and leave a legacy for posterity.
Earlier, the DG of WUEDA, Prince Godwin Ejinyere, said the visit was to brief the Commanding Officer on the activities of the government Agency towards the development of Warri, Uvwie and the environs, using a holistic approach to restore to lost glory of the oil rich city.

Prince Ejinyere said lawlessness must stop so that Warri could rank among the best cities in the world.
While stating that security was key to all developmental efforts, Prince Ejinyere asserted that investors could only be attracted to a well secured and safe environment for business to thrive.
He told the Army Officer that enlightenment and sensitisation campaigns were ongoing to bring all residents to the same page before starting enforcement, with a Mobile Court working with the Agency to sanction erring residents.
Thanking the Commanding Officer for his audience and concern for the actualization of the Agency’s mandate, Prince Ejinyere reiterated that the cooperation of the Military would go a long way in achieving set goals.
The DG said the Agency was poised to get things right at all times, stressing that the enforcement of the relevant laws would be strict, even as he acknowledged the adversaries in the way of the Agency, which he expressed optimism of surmounting.
He said town hall meetings would be convened by the Agency where many critical stakeholders such as traders associations, youth and women groups, transport unions, as well as community executives, palace chiefs, opinion leaders, and leaders of thought would be enlightened about the Agency’s mandate.
The highlight of the visit was the presentation of a souvenir to Prince Ejinyere by Major Ohegbe.
