The National Treasurer, Conference of Speakers of State Houses of Assembly, Rt Hon Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has expressed the hope that issues that led to the ongoing nationwide industrial action by the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria, PASAN, will soon be resolved.

Guwor, in a telephone chat with our Correspondent, said critical stakeholders, including the leadership of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislature and the Governors’ Forum were on top of the matter.

The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly explained that the target was to find an amicable and lasting solution to the impasse.

He stated that the 36 State Houses of Assembly were not happy with the situation, which had disrupted the sitting calendar and expressed optimism of a quick resolution of the contentious issues.

“The leadership of the State Houses of Assembly are not happy over the ongoing industrial action by the parliamentary workers. You would have observed that all through last week we could not sit because of the strike. We are not happy that we can not sit to carry out our legislative functions.

“However, the leadership of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures is not relenting in seeking an amicable resolution of the problem. We have been meeting for the past three days on the issue. I know the Governors’ Forum is also on it.

“What matters most is a lasting solution to the impasse. We believe that the leadership of PASAN may also not want to unnecessarily prolong the strike. So it is our hope that the strike will be called off soon”, Guwor stated.
