Leaders at all levels of governance have been charged to use their positions to positively impact on the lives of the people in order to earn trust and recognition.
Delta State Governor, Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, gave the charge at the conferment of Chieftaincy titles on the Chairman of Oshimili North Local Government, Hon Innocent Esewezie, by the Obuzor of Ibusa, Obi (Prof) L. C. Nwoboshi and the Oshimili North Traditional Rulers and Chiefs Committee.
The Governor, represented by his Special Adviser on Transport, Hon Jaro Egbo, said public office was for service and not for self aggrandisement and commended Hon Esewezie for keying into the MORE agenda of the state government to give his people purposeful leadership.
In his remarks, the Obuzor of Ibusa, who conferred the title ‘UGO NWA’ on the Council Chairman and ‘NWA JI UNO’ on his wife, Flora, commended him for his numerous achievements in human capital and infrastructural development across the Local Government Area and thanked the immediate past Governor of Delta state, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, for mentoring their son.
Similarly, the Obi of Atuma Iga, HRM Chukwuka Ogbudo, on behalf of the Traditional Rulers and Chiefs Committee, conferred the title ‘EZI NWA JI ANI’ on Esewezie and ‘NNE JI UNO’ on his wife.
In his acceptance speech, Chief Esewezie thanked the Obuzor of Ibusa and other traditional rulers in Oshimili North for the honour done him and for being supportive of his administration through the maintenance of peace in their communities.
The Council Chairman commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for providing a template for MORE accelerated development of the state, which he had keyed into, and assured the people of Oshimili North that he would continue to provide quality service to make live more meaningful to them.
In separate interviews with newsmen, the Obi of Ukala and Chairman, Planning Committee for the event, HRM Clement Ejiofor, and the President General of the Ibusa Community Development Union, Chief Victor Uchunor, congratulated Chief Esewezie for the recognition accorded him for hard work and called on those in the corridors of power to emulate him.
