The 20 DSIEC Ward Coordinators of the Palliative Distribution Committees in Oshimili South Local Government Area of Delta State have been reminded that the palliatives are meant for all residents of the LGA irrespective of political affiliation.

The LGA Palliative Monitoring Committee Chairman and member representing Oshimili South Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon Bridget Anyafulu, stated this while addressing a joint meeting of the Monitoring Committee and the Ward Coordinators.

Hon Anyafulu said the meeting was convoked to brief the Ward Coordinators on how to go about the distribution process as conceived by the state government and to prepare the Ward Committees to establish ownership of the process on behalf of their people.

She explained that the Ward Committees comprised of trusted individuals well known to the people, including the Councillors representing the various wards, representatives of communities, women and youth organisations, Persons Living With Disabilities, among others.

The Lawmaker emphasized that the distribution process must be driven by transparency and accountability, adding that the items should be shared to the target beneficiaries according to the template provided by the state government for the exercise.

This, she explained, showed that of the 696 bags of rice to be shared by the 20 wards, each ward would receive 40 percent, 20 percent for poor and vulnerable households, 25 percent for impacted groups, including widows and Persons Living With Disabilities, additional 10 percent for unban wards and 5 percent for contingency.

Hon Anyafulu said there would not be any room for manipulation as there was enough information on the palliatives in the public domain, in addition to sensitization campaigns to be mounted across the wards and urged residents of the Local Government Area to cooperate with the Ward Committees to guarantee a seamless distribution of the palliatives.
