TINUBU APPOINTS NEW CBN GOVERNOR, SACKS EMEFIELE’S DEPUTIES

President Bola Tinubu has nominated Dr Olayemi Cardoso as the new Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Cardoso, who will serve a term of 5 years in the first instance, takes over from Folashodun Shonubi, who has been holding the position in acting capacity, if confirmed by the Nigerian Senate.

According to a statement by Presidential spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu has also  sacked all the four Deputies that served under the suspended Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Mr Godwin Emefiele. who has been in custody of the nation’s Secret Police, DSS.  

The statement adds that the President has approved the nomination of four new Deputy Governors of the CBN for a term of 5 years in the first instance, subject to the confirmation of the Nigerian Senate.
