Members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) deployed to Delta state have been asked to leverage on the hospitality and peaceful nature of the state in serving their host communities.
The State Governor, Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, made the call on Tuesday at the closing ceremony of the 2023 batch ‘B’ Stream 2 orientation course at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Issele-Uku.
The Governor, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Hon Prince Johnson Erijo, noted that the orientation course was intended to stimulate the consciousness of the corps members and prepare them for the future challenges in life.
Oborevwori said the course would have inculcated in them the principles of positive living and the virtues of perseverance, dedication to duty, loyalty, discipline and patriotism, which he said they should apply to their endeavors towards the development of the state and the nation.
He urged the corps members to diligently serve their host communities, pointing out that the roles of their predecessors in the development of the state were quite appreciable and they should do their best to contribute their quota to government’s efforts to improve the quality of life of the people.
The Governor urged them to put in their best during the service year, devote some of their time to self development and reflection on plans for post-service life, as well as avoid needless travels in order not to put their lives at risk.
Earlier, the State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mr Alao Olusegun, congratulated the corps members on the successful completion of their orientation course and reminded them that their primary assignments must be taken seriously.
He said they were expected to contribute to the development of their host communities and Delta state at large, especially in the areas of education, infrastructure and healthcare delivery, assuring them that their contributions would not go unnoticed.
