The Delta State Government has given the contractor handling the construction of the Lander Brothers Anchorage, Asaba, 48-hour to explain why the contract should not be terminated.

The Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr Darlington ijeh, who gave the ultimatum while addressing newsmen shortly after inspecting the project, said the contract was awarded to Messrs Jabi Boat Club, Abuja, on 1st December, 2020, and ought to have been completed and put to use under a build, operate and transfer arrangement, in 2023.

Dr ijeh noted that all the contractor had done on site was to demolish the existing structure that was a tourist site and generating revenue for the state and income for the youths of the community who operated small businesses at the facility.

He pointed out that in August 2023, the contracting firm was asked to return to site and rebuild the structure that was demolished, but that the directive was ignored and till date the contractor had yet to show presence on  site.

The Commissioner, who revealed that the contract was awarded same day as that of the Leisure Park, said the Park had been completed and commissioned, while the Anchorage was still in limbo.

Dr Ijeh debunked the rumour that government had sold the Anchorage to a private investor, saying that there was no intention to so do
