In a bid to equip engineers with better understanding of engineering skills to meet up with the present day challenges in road construction, the State Ministry of Works (Highways, Urban, Rural and Riverine) has organized a three-day capacity building workshop for  engineers in the Ministry.

In their remarks at the opening ceremony of the workshop, the Commissioners in charge of  the Ministry, Hon. Reuben Izeze and Mr Charles Aniagwu, said it was necessary to equip the engineers with the requisite skills so they could key into the implementation of the M.O.R.E agenda of the Oborevwori  administration.

The Commissioners, represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Engr Fred Edafiogho, said that the Oborevwori administration was committed to embarking on massive infrastructural development, especially roads, in order to open up more urban, rural and riverine towns in the state to accelerated development.

According to them, the state government had planned to embark on massive construction of road projects for the greater development of the state.

They added that the concerned engineers in the Ministry should brace-up to the challenges ahead, learn new innovations and be able to overcome such challenges, using knowledge acquired at the workshop.

“The workshop is meant to prepare the engineers for the task ahead, as government expects a lot from them, and a better result from the Ministry”, the Commissioners said.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Works, Engr Fred Edafiogho, revealed that over 100 engineers were being trained in the capacity building workshop, including those in the field.

“The Ministry needs to improve on the knowledge and ability of our engineers to deliver. By this, things they used to take for granted will no longer be so treated”, Engr Edafiogho stated.

Some of the participants who spoke with journalists said their orientation about road construction, especially in swampy and riverine areas, had been broadened as it had been a huge challenge for them whenever they had projects in those areas.

The Deputy Director, Urban, Engr. Chris Gberevbie,  thanked the Commissioners for organizing the  workshop, adding that the engineers were better informed of certain areas of engineering work which were unknown to them before the training.

The workshop was held at Irri in Isoko South Local Government Area of the state.
